John "Mike" Henry Launches Mayoral Campaign

Carbondale mayoral candidate John “Mike” Henry announced today the official opening of his campaign will be on Thursday, March 5th from 5 to 7 p.m. The celebration will take place at the campaign's headquarters in the historic Julia Building at 212 South University Avenue, at the corner of Routes 13 and 51 in the heart of Carbondale.

With the help of many supporters, Henry, a longtime Carbondale businessman, has been organizing and planning his campaign since early January.

The grand opening is a great opportunity for the public to come to the Julia Building, to meet Mike, wife Terri and his Campaign Committee. “I look forward to talking with more of our voters and listening to their concerns,” Henry said.

A 1972 graduate of SIU, Henry has raised his three sons here in Carbondale. He and Terri Walters, a native of Carbondale, were married in 1998 and live on Hill Avenue near the campus. He has owned and operated Henry Printing since 1972, and he will bring to city hall his 42 years of fiscal and managerial experience.

“I am dug in here,” Henry said, “immersed in our community and proud of Carbondale— even with the issues that are troubling us today.”

Henry is running on a five-part platform: Regain control of city spending; make our city safe again; protect, preserve, and restore our neighborhoods; increase enrollment at SIU; and revitalize our downtown. Henry calls it “a common-sense approach to city government.”
